Nu Xi Chapter | The Premier Co-Ed Professional Business Fraternity
|
Bonded by their special friendship and common interest in business, four men at New York University founded the nation’s first professional business fraternity in 1904, Alpha Kappa Psi. "The Brooklyn Four" sought to establish an organization that would foster the knowledge and skills essential to their personal and professional growth; vital elements that were not to be found in these men's academic curriculum. Today, the world has witnessed the evolution of their dream into the largest and most thriving professional fraternity of business in the United States. With College Chapters on over three hundred campuses and nearly one hundred Alumni Chapters nation-wide, Alpha Kappa Psi has also become one of the most renowned professional networks in the world, giving its growing number of 200,000 members the competitive edge necessary to make their thrust into corporate America. Alpha Kappa Psi is also growing on an international scale, with more than 200 chapters in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Some famous alumni of Alpha Kappa Psi include Lee Iococca, Malcom S. Forbes. Jr., George Kozmetsky, J.C. Penny, Ronald Reagan, and Sam Walton. |

Founded on May 14, 1989 at the University of California at San Diego, the Nu Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi holds the same century-old tradition and vision as was once held by the Brooklyn Four. Acknowledging that UCSD has no official program of business, Alpha Kappa Psi was created here to provide the University’s student body with an opportunity to attain the critical professional skills necessary to excel in tomorrow’s workforce. In recent years, UCSD’s Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi has become the premier resource for students here to acquire a taste for the business world. Through hands on leadership experience, insightful seminars, professional workshops, and internship opportunities, our members have grown to become a highly recognized pool of potential recruits by many of the nation’s leading firms. We here in Alpha Kappa Psi realize that life is a competition - and this is why we have chosen to be on the winning team! |

University of California San Diego is one of the fastest growing and most competitive universities in the country. Located in the beautiful and scenic town of La Jolla in San Diego, students at the University revel in its proximity to the beach as well as the breathtaking beauty of the vast campus itself. In a recent U.S. News and World Report study, UCSD was ranked seventh best in the excellence of all state-supported colleges and universities in the nation. The school is currently home to over 20,000 students, spread out among six colleges within the University. The mean grade-point average of an incoming freshman at UCSD is over 4.0, with an average SAT score over 1300. UCSD has spun off over 150 San Diego companies, which create well over $2.1 billion in annual revenues. In fact, forty percent of the people who work in the San Diego biotech/biomed industry work for UCSD spin-off companies. The founder of Qualcomm was once a professor at UCSD, and many university graduates go on to high level positions within that company. UCSD's Rady School of Management has recently moved into its new facility in north campus. Already viewed as one of the fastest growing organization in the nation, the School of Management is establishing itself as a ideal school in business studies. Alpha Kappa Psi has already become sponsored by the School of Management for professional events and workshops. UCSD's students have the opportunity to gain valuable business skills and networking connections through the Alpha Kappa Psi organization. |
